A Streetcar named Desire

The Gate stages a production of the classic Pulitzer Prize-winning play written by American playwright Tennessee Williams in 1947.

When the disturbed Blanche DuBois moves in with her sister in New Orleans she is tormented by her brutish brother-in-law Stanley Kowalski. His menacing attitude towards her results in a struggle to conceal her vulnerability as reality begins to crumble around her.

The 1951 movie version, starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh, won a string of awards including four Oscars, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

The Gate's version is directed by Ethan McSweeny, and the cast includes Malcolm Adams, Steve Blount, Denis Conway, Gavin Fullam, Bosco Hogan, Garrett Lombard, Elizabeth Moynihan, Marion O’Dwyer, Catherine Walker and Lia Williams.
