A Jack Yeats oil, A Blackbird Bathing in Tr na ng from 1943, fetched a record price of 820,000 at an auction held by de Veres art auctioneers at the Royal Hiberian Academy on 30 November. The Little Door (oil on canvas, from 1946) and Water Lilies (oil on canvas, from 1930), also by Yeats, sold for 360,000 and 200,000 respectively. The three paintings, which had been on loan to the University of Limerick for seven years, belonged to the Allen family of Ballymaloe House in Cork. The family made headlines in 2003 when chef Tim Allen left the houses famous cookery school after being convicted of possessing child pornography. According to a de Veres representative, there were predominantly Irish buyers at the auction.
