Planning permission for the redevelopment of the historic Landsdowne Road rugby grounds has been granted by the Dublin city council, with 28 conditions attached including control of dust levels on the site during construction work. However, residents of the area are preparing to appeal the councils decision to An Bord Pleanala (Irish planning appeals board) claiming that the sheer scale of new development will impact negatively on their quality of life, blocking out light and causing major traffic congestion during events. The proposed 50,000-seater arena is to cost 365 million and should be ready by 2009.
