Dublin marathon fourth largest in Europe

Record numbers for upcoming Dublin marathon.

This October's Dublin Marathon has already reached its capacity of 19,500 runners, making it now the fourth largest marathon in Europe.

The record figure for the annual SSE Airtricity Marathon, scheduled for 30 October, is a significant increase from the 15,000 participants in last year's event.

The 42-km marathon begins at Fitzwilliam Square, with the route incorporating Phoenix Park to the north and University College Dublin to the south, before finishing near the starting line at Merrion Square.

The largest marathons in Europe are Paris (with 41,801 runners last year), London (39,200), and Berlin (28,000).
