Chocolat Show

The Maison de la Folklore et des Traditions presents an exhibition of hundreds of decorated tin chocolate boxes from the 56,000-strong collection of Yvette Dardenne.

The boxes on show were used to preserve cocoa or chocolate, and the oldest one dates from 1868.

Dardenne began her collection in 1988, promising her husband she would stop collecting when she reached 10,000 boxes.

Belgium has a long history of chocolate, producing over 172,000 tons per year with more than 2,000 chocolate shops throughout the country.
