People who leave objects of value such as mobile phones or portable computers in their parked vehicle may find it has been towed away under a new scheme aimed at beating crime. Amsterdam police currently have to deal with around 70 reports of thefts from cars per day. In an attempt to pre-empt the thieves, police will tow tempting vehicles to the police station, where the owners can collect them free of charge. Other initiatives in the battle against car thieves include the use of decoy cars. Parking lots are also to get more warning signs alerting vehicle owners to the dangers of leaving valuables in their car.
