According to a recent poll, 86 per cent of residents polled in Oxford would support some kind of ban of smoking in public places. A total of 54 per cent of those asked were in favour of a no-smoking policy in all indoor public places with 32 per cent supporting a ban in both outdoor and indoor public places.

The survey carried out by the polling firm MORI asked 1,000 people what their views were as part of Oxford city councils input into the government target to ban smoking in public places by 2007. To see results in full, www.oxford.gov.uk.
