Oxford city council has approved the nomination of long-standing Labour councillor John Tanner to take over as Lord Mayor from the incumbent Jim Campbell. Tanner, who is currently councillor for the Littlemore ward, will be sworn in at a ceremony at the Oxford Town Hall on 10 May. A former leader of the council from 1998-2000, Tanner has represented south Oxford almost continuously since 1988. In addition to serving on the full council and four council committees including environment and health, Tanner also works for the legal services commission.
