To celebrate the World Shakespeare Festival the Globe Theatre in London is staging 37 Shakespeare plays by 37 companies from 37 countries in almost as many languages - from Albanian to Yoruba.

The festival, in which about 600 actors will take part, opened on 21 April and continues until 9 June.

The opening play was Venus and Adonis by Cape Town
