Two young islanders became the first people ever to paddle a surfboard from France to Jersey on Saturday 25 August.

20-year-old Fabian Baker and his 19-year-old university friend, Ben Smith, took up the challenge last Thursday, but force four northerly winds meant that their crossing had to be postponed by two days.

The pair were raising money for the charity, Help a Jersey Child, and completed the 10-mile distance in six and a half hours.

They began their paddle on Saturday at 7.55, from the beach at St-Germain-sur-Ay-Plage, just south of Port Bail, on the Normandy coast opposite the east coast of Jersey. They finished at St Catherine
