Pariss 37th bridge and fourth footbridge is being built between the existing bridges of Bercy and Tolbiac. When it opens at the end of June 2006 it will connect the Bibliothque Nationale de France on the left bank in the 13ieme arrondissement and the Parc de Bercy on the right bank in the 12ieme. The walkway will have a single span with no supporting pylons and there will be a space for markets and exhibitions in the centre. At present the bridge, which is costing 26 million to build, is known as the Bercy-Tolbiac but, because of its lightness and grace, planners are thinking of giving it a womans name; if all goes according to plan, it will be named after the French writer Simone de Beauvoir.
