Copenhagen police dismount

Copenhagen police will no longer patrol the streets on horseback from 1 December. The small but popular force, which is made up of nine horses and 12 police, is being slashed because of the need for budget cuts.

It is estimated that a mounted patrol costs DKK 130,000 more than a regular one because of the price of horse food, stabling and veterinary bills. The Copenhagen police force is aiming to cut its budget by DKK 118 million.
