The Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a bilateral meeting ahead of the European Council, which is scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
Under the lockdown "Italians showed extraordinary discipline" and on the reform front, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte "was proactive," said Chancellor Merkel.
Chancellor Angela Merkel, at the end of the one-hour bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister, used words of support and encouragement toward Italy, and declared herself in favour of the allocation of funds for the countries most affected by covid-19, including Italy.
The meeting took place at Meseberg Castle, a Baroque palace 65 kilometres north of Berlin in the state of Brandenburg. It confirms that Italy and Germany are teaming up in the Recovery Fund match, with the aim of rapidly achieving a strong European reaction to the pandemic and its devastating economic consequences.
