In the 5th arrondisement, this is the university neighbourhood of Paris the home of historic La Sorbonne. The neighbourhood is beautiful, with its stone buildings. However at night, besides a couple cocktail bars, it is pretty quiet. By day there is feverish activitiy as students go to and from the university, the library, the caffeteria and the snack bars. The inside of the Pantheon, which houses Foucaults Pendulum, is a must. The two main gardens, les Jardins de Luxembourg and le Jardin des Plantes, are year-round visiting points for students, families and nature lovers. It is easily reached by metro, but parking, an increasingly rare commodity in Paris, is difficult. There are some small gorcery shops but not many supermarkets.
