Composed in 1786, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts opera buffa The Marriage of Figaro is presented by the Volksoper Wien featuring Austrian bass-baritone Josef Wagner in the title role, with award-winning American soprano Jennifer OLoughlin as his bride-to-be, Susannah. One of Mozarts most successful and popular works, The Marriage of Figaro is based on a stage comedy by Pierre Beaumarchais, recounting the difficulties besetting Count Almavivas valet Figaro, as his plans to wed his beloved Susannah, the Countess Almavivas lady-in-waiting, are complicated by the Counts attempts to assert his feudal rights over Susannah. The role of Count Almaviva is played by Mathias Hausmann. Musical direction Peter Rundel. Figaro runs for 3 hours 30 minutes with one interval. Admission 70-1.50. Performances at 19.00 on 25, 29 Sept; 5, 12, 17 Oct; 11 Nov; 5, 7 Dec. Matinees 15 Oct at 16.00, Nov 19 & Dec 26 at 18.00.
