1 June-16 July 2006. For the second time since 1996, the Sonambiente festival of Sound Art comes to Berlin to coincide with the football World Cup. Installations, performances, visual art, video, radio art, film and new media featuring over 40 international artists are on show in five central venues and over a dozen locations around the German capital. The Berliner Festspiele hosts the World Cup Sound Art lounge with screenings of all matches as well as live performances and concerts. At the Filmkunsthaus Babylon, the Sonambiente Filmseries (7-15 July) includes Berlin Babylon, A Homage to John Cage, an experimental film documentary of Stockhausens Happening with Allen Ginsberg and Touch the Sound featuring percussionist Evelyn Glennie. Other venues hosting festival events include the former Polish embassy on the Unter den Linden and the old pumping station on Holzmarktstrae, with exhibitions at the Akademie der Knste. International performers include Robin Rimbaud aka Scanner from Britain, Finnbogi Ptursson from Iceland, David First and Alvin Curran from the United States and Joanna Dudley from Australia.
