10 June-31 Aug 2006. Irelands longest and largest festival of free outdoor events, now in its 15th edition, returns to Dublins cultural quarter, Temple Bar. The Movies on the Square section this year features Oscar-winning films from 1991-2006 in the open-air setting of Meeting House Square every Saturday night from 17 Jun-26 Aug. There is also a competition, the Short Film Award, aimed at promoting new short films made by Irish filmmakers, as well as Thursday night screenings of black-and-white classic films, including Grand Hotel and Girl Crazy, in August. From 18-25 June, Temple Bar hosts concerts of traditional Irish music as well as an outdoor ceilidh and a special 15th anniversary event, The Poet and the Piper, featuring Derry poet, Seamus Heaney, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, and internationally acclaimed uilleann player Liam OFlynn. Other events include the Temple Bar Circus Season (17-23 July), sound installations, street performances with the Fishamble Theatre Company and Family Fun on Sundays in July and August.
