Until 18 Dec 2005. Almost every Sun morning the Holywell Music Room is host to one of the most popular series of chamber music concerts in the United Kingdom. The first of the Coffee Concerts series was held in 1986 and proved to be an immediate success. Held in the beautiful surroundings of Europes oldest purpose-built concert hall, the events have hosted the best in British and international musicians and ensembles. On 13 Nov it is the turn of the Brodsky String Quartet, performing the Beethoven String Quartet op.59 no.2 (Razumofsky), followed on 27 Nov by the Olivier Ensemble playing Ravel and Debussy. On 4 Dec, the Angell Piano Trio is performing the Turina Piano Trio and Beethoven Piano Trio in C minor op.1 no.3. The Adderbury Ensemble, which helped to set up the Oxford Coffee Concerts, have two performances scheduled for 11 and 18 Dec, featuring Mozart, Shostakovich, Corelli and Vivaldi. Admission 8.50, students, pensioners and under 16s 7.50. Concerts start at 11.15. Coffee is served in the nearby Kings Arms and the Next Door from 10.30 and also after the concerts, free with your ticket.
