1 July-3 Sept 2006. This years summer Music Film Festival on the Rathausplatz puts the emphasis on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on the 250th anniversary of his birth. The Vienna Town Hall provides the backdrop for the screen showing films of concerts, operas and ballets performed by prestigious companies in venues all round the world. Highlights include La Traviata from the 2005 Salzburg Festival and the Spirits of Mozart crossover project (presented in Vienna in January 2006) with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull, Cristina Gallardo-Doms and other singers performing Mozart arrangements. Puccinis La Boheme and Verdis Aida, Cuban music from Omara Portuondo and jazz with Peter Cincotti are among other films featured in the festival. The outdoor cinema has seating for 3,000. International food stands operate in the square from 11.00-24.00. Admission free. Films start at twilight.
