A report by property consultants, Jones Lang LaSalle, has revealed a 15 per cent increase in the office space rented in 2005 in Barcelona compared to the year before. Of the 410,000 sqm rented out last year, 70,000 were contracted with the Catalan government, the Generalitat de Catalunya, which required extra space due to the reorganizing of their central administrative offices. Rental prices for property in the city centre now cost around 24 per sqm. The space scarcity is already being felt, particularly in the Paseo di Grcia and Avenida Diagonal areas, and the report predicts that this will push prices even higher in 2006.
