The Town Council has announced a competition for the best window box, balcony garden, faade or courtyard in the French capital as part of its campaign to make Paris greener. Prizes include shopping vouchers and gardening books. Paris arrondissements are hosting events such as organic gardening courses, guided tours of historic gardens and a plant swap at the Maison du Jardinage in the Parc de Bercy until the closing date for registration on 15 July. This year the Ville de Paris plans to add nine hectares of extra garden space to the city, with over 50 projects including the large new public park, Les Jardins dEole, in the 18th arrondissement and the extension of existing public gardens.
