Barcelonas new high tech Parc de Recerca Biomdica (PRBB) on the seafront near Port Olimpic is finally a reality. The opening in mid-May was attended by the mayor of Barcelona, Joan Clos, the minister for education and science, Mercedes Cabrera, and the president of the Catalonian government, Pasqual Maragall. Pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies will be based at the research park, which took 20 years to complete. Research will focus on genetic and molecular life science and will be directly linked to activities at the nearby Hospital del Mar.
