The Madrid city council has approved the 277 million urban development project for the El Caaveral district in Viclvaro near the suburb of Coslada in north-east Madrid. Plans include the construction of 14,000 new homes and the creation of over one million square metres of green space. Footpaths and a six-kilometre cycle track are also part of the project. Five rail and Metro stations on the C1, C2 and C7 lines will connect the new suburb to the centre. The development will take two years to complete. El Caaveral is one of seven areas earmarked for urban development by the Madrid city council. The others are La Atalayuela, Los Cerros, Los Ahijones, Los Berrocales, Valdecarros and la Nueva Centralidad del Este.
