Marijuana can no longer be smoked on the streets of West Amsterdam under a new bylaw attempting to limit petty crime in the de-Baarsjes neighbourhood, one of the poorest quarters of Amsterdam. Offenders will be fined 50. The new rules came into force on 1 February.
