Ten local government inspectors from the department of consumer protection are to carry out sweeping controls of product guarantees across Madrids commercial outlets from shopping malls to family-run businesses in November. The aim of the campaign is to verify respect for the two-year legal guarantee period on over 200 objects including household-electrical goods, computers, musical instruments, furniture and sports articles. The officials will also be inspecting invoices, price tickets and publicity material to make sure that product information is available in Spanish and that customers rights are not infringed or limited by hidden clauses. Second-hand goods should be guaranteed for a minimum of one year.
