Located in the south east of the city, Cowley is home to many of Oxfords industries, including the BMW manufacturing plant, which employs many local residents. Oxford Business Park, and the citys commercial radio station Fox FM is also located here. Despite the industry, Cowley is also a popular residential area for students and non-professionals. However many of the 1930s and 1940s semi-detached properties look dated and run-down. Some new property developments have sprung up in the area, somewhat improving its appearance. Cowley Road is particularly popular with the uncoventional, enticed by its music venues, cinemas, tattoo artists and ethnic shops. Cowley may lack the natural beauty provided by parks and rivers, however this part of Oxford has plenty of amenities. Two retail parks, Templars Square shopping centre, a supermarket, a swimming pool, schools and pubs makes this district relatively self-sufficient. Oxford Stadium, with its greyhound racing and speedway, are located here. Both Oxford city centre and Headington are within easy reach.
