14 Nov 2005-7 Jan 2006. The famous Dam square in the heart of the Dutch capital is the focus of festive season activities, with the creation of a huge ice-skating rink for enthusiasts of all ages and facilities for skate hire and wooden chalets selling hot drinks and refreshments. A Nativity scene and Christmas tree complete the setting for the arrival of St Nicholas and his helpers 14 Nov-5 Dec, while a childrens train puffs its way around the square. The more adventurous can take a trip in a hot air balloon. 7-26 Dec there will be a Christmas market in front of the Royal Palace with around 25 stalls selling everything from gifts to traditional delicacies. Winterworld 2005 is open 10.00-22.00 daily. Skating rink closed 30-31 Dec.
