Wifredo Lam

6 April-15 Aug. The Reina Sofia holds a retrospective dedicated to the Cuban artist Wifredo Lam (1902-1982) whose work is currently undergoing a reappraisal in the international art world.

Lam gained recognition in the 1940s for his revival of Afro-Cuban art, creating his own style which was influenced by other 20th century trends. Predominantly a painter, Lam also worked with sculpture, ceramics and printmaking in his later life.

The retrospective features almost 250 works, including paintings, drawings, etchings, prints and ceramics as well as more than 300 documents including letters, photographs, magazines and books.
