29 Oct-25 Nov 2006. First conceived by Italian conductor Claudio Abbado in 1988, this annual festival of contemporary music, film, performance and text now attracts around 13,000 visitors each year. Wien Modern 2006 offers 77 concerts and events in venues across Vienna including the Vienna Konzerthaus, which also houses the Festival Lounge open daily from 18.00. This year features composers Bernard Lang with his two-act musical theatre show I Hate Mozart at the Theater an der Wien (12 Nov) and Gyrgy Kurtg, who performs his own compositions at the Konzerthaus together with his wife Mrta (17 Nov). Pianist Maurizio Pollini presents the Projekt Pollini I & II (21 & 25 Nov) combining works by Stockhausen and Berio with classics by Schoenberg, Mozart, Brahms and Beethoven. Admission various.
