Berlins annual mega media arts event, Transmediale 06, this year explores the theme of Reality Addicts at the Akadamie der Kunste, which also hosts the Smile Machines exhibition as part of the festival. Transmediale 06 is now in its 19th year, bringing together media artists, critics and experts from all over the world for 5 days of conferences, screenings, performances and workshops from 3-7 Feb. this year the focus is on humour as a means of social critique, with Reality Addicts seeking to subvert the superficiality of a media-sanitized world. The exhibition includes works by Nam June Paik, The Thinker and Les Levine, I Am An Artist, both tongue-in-cheek interpretations of the artists self-concept.
