Until 30 Sept 2005. The Ark Cultural Centre for Children will see an invasion of artificial humans and mechanical beasts this summer with the Save the Robots exhibition and festival. Robots revenging themselves on their creators has fuelled science fiction for years , from Forbidden Planet in 1956 to more recent films like The Matrix and I, Robot. In this ground-breaking event (the first and largest of its kind in Ireland), audiences can enjoy performances, workshops, street theatre and an exhibition that investigates the idea of robots in film, fantasy and art, and examines the question just what is our obsession with robots? Save the Robots will showcase objects from around the world such as the rebuilding of a 13th century robot from a manuscript in the Chester Beatty Library, a replica ancient chess-playing Turk who once played against Napoleon Bonaparte, Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet, and robotic sculptures by Irish and international artists.

Admission: see website. Mon-Fri: 10.30-17.30.
