12 June-1 August 2005. Its third time around for the International Sand Sculpture Festival in Berlin this summer with over 30 of the worlds best sandsculptors on hand to show their skills and creativity off to an appreciative public. This years artists come from as far a field as Russia, India and even Marocco and will compete for a highly prized award, Germanys Sandsculpting Award. The festival takes place in the heart of Berlin on 500m2 site close to the famous Reichstag building, the home of the German parliament. The theme this year is "Modern Fairy-Tales" and the 10 sand-sculpting competitions should attract a huge number of visitors. The exanded site has enough room for five giant showpieces while the rest of the festival includes guided tours, childrens activities, parties and live music in the evening. Visitors can learn the artists craft at any of the free Sand Carving Workshops. Admission costs 4-5 (2 for children, free for under 6s). Mon-Sun 10.00-22.00.
