Sacred Stories: Religious Paintings by Spanish Artists in Rome (1852-1864)

17 May - 27 January 2013. The Prado Museum presents an exhibition of religious paintings produced by Spanish painters that were based in Rome between 1852 and 1866.

On display are five masterpieces by Luis de Madrazo, Eduardo Rosales, Alejo Vera and Domingo Valdivieso.

Combining their extensive academic skills with inspiration gained from their contemporaries in the Italian capital, the five Spanish artists were influential in steering genre painting from a late Romanticism towards a pictorial, realistic style.

Tues-Sun 09.00-20.00.
