28 June - 13 Sept 2009. In its inaugural year, the Rijswijk Textile Biennial showcases the work of 16 contemporary artists, all of whom hail from diverse backgrounds but are united in the fact that their primary careers belong in the fine arts of sculpture and painting. The move to textile art is a demanding one and requires the learning of a mixture of ancient techniques with computer-based modernity. These artists feel compelled to experiment to the best of their abilities in a parallel artform previously unknown to them. The Rijswijk Textile Biennial concludes with a textile fair on 13 September from 15.00-19.00.
The Rijswijk Museum holds on average ten temporary exhibitions annually.
