4 September 2005. Better known as one of Londons most elegant shopping streets, Regent Street closes annually for a musical and theatre festival at the beginning of September. With two stages of live pop and classical music and another stage for theatre, the Regent Street Festival is a unique occasion on the West End calendar for enjoying the Georgian cityscape, escaping the traffic and riding the bumper cars, carousels, ferris wheel and other attractions of the fairground. The entertainment on offer caters to all ages with street performers, storytellers and theatre. The festival is even an occasion to buy summer sale bargains from the areas top retailers, many of which provide special sales during the festival. There are also outdoor dining and drinking, music, magic and face painting for the young uns. Attendance is free, 12.00-20.00
