Picasso in Barcelona 1917

26 Oct-28 Jan. Exhibition highlighting Picasso's return to Barcelona from June to November 1917, after having lived for many years in Paris.

Earlier in 1917 the artist had been working in Rome where he designed the set and costumes for the ballet Parade for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes.

His return to Barcelona, where he spent the formative years of his youth, proved to be a particularly prolific time for the artist.

He used the interlude to search for new forms of expression, away from the revolutionary Cubist period that he had pioneered over the preceding decade.

The exhibition also examines Picasso's relationships with local artists and how he occupied his free time in the city.
