Photography: Works from the Louisiana Collection

This year the focus of the annual photographic exhibition of the Louisiana collection is photography as a medium in an artistic context.

The works on show examine numerous aspects of photography, from its relationship with reality to classic genres such as landscape, portrait and architecture.

Exhibition organisers point to the relative newness of the medium, which was invented in 1839. They say it was not readily embraced as a form of artistic expression until the 1980s but that today it enjoys equal footing with painting and drawing in the visual arts.

Photographers in the exhibition include Doug Aitken, Olaf Breuning, Sherrie Levine and Francesca Woodman.
