20 August 2009 - 6 September 2010. The exhibition examines how life suddenly changed for British men and women after Prime Minister Chamberlain's announcement on 3 September 1939. With the aid of historical material and personal memorabilia, this exhibition provides a chilling reminder, seventy years after the Second World War began, of the grim reality faced by millions of people. The political build-up to the Chamberlain's grave announcement is explored, as is an hour-by-hour countdown of the events of that historic day and the ensuing conflict.
