10 September-8 January 2012. After three months of renovations, MUMOK reopens with the exhibition Museum of Wishes, the title of which relates specifically to the display of 30 pieces on the museum's "wish list", by internationally-renowned artists such as Fred Sandback, Ray Johnson, Robert Barry, Isa Genzken and Cindy Sherman.

Currently on loan from other sources, museum authorities hope to encourage sponsors to acquire the pieces for the museum. In addition to the wish list is a comprehensive selection from the museum's 9,000-piece collection.

Pieces by Alberto Giacometti, Rene Magritte, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso represent the classical modern period while contemporary art is represented in the recent work of Gerhard Richter and Herbert Brandl.

The exhibition's curator is the museum's newly-appointed director, Karola Kraus.
