Matisse: Doubles and Variations

14 July - 28 October. Denmark's National Gallery provides an extensive selection of "series and pairs" by Henri Matisse (1869-1954), offering a glimpse into how similar objects were viewed in different ways by the modernist master.

The doubles and variations theme involves paintings from all the major phases of Matisse, whose work is regarded as having changed the direction of 20th-century art.

The exhibition examines the artist's painting process and his use of repetition. The works on display, rarely exhibited together, come from the gallery's own collection as well as from the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

10.00-17.00. Closed Mon, Wed.
