25 May-23 June 2005. Widely regarded as one of the worlds finest living artists, this unique show at Marlborough Fine Art brings together rare etchings by an artist known chiefly for his paintings. Lucian Freud was born in Berlin in 1922 but moved with his family to the UK during his childhood. He is well known for his very revealing style of painting such as 'Her Majesty the Queen', a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II finished in 2001. The show is the first occasion on which Freuds prints are shown together in a major exhibition, many of them never seen before in public. It includes some 60 original etchings encompassing almost the entirety of the artists output in this medium. Like his paintings, the subject matter is figurative, featuring portraits of people composed after intense observation by the artist and represented in a sometimes brutal but always human manner. Some of the works displayed are for sale. Admission is free. Mon to Fri from 10.00 to 17.30, (until 12.30 on Sat).
