18 May-6 June 2006. The Amsterdam Filmmuseum hosts a tribute to French filmmaker Louis Malle (1932-1995), opening with his 1960s comedy Zazie dans le Mtro. A satire on French bourgeois society, the film follows the adventures of 12-year-old Zazie exploring Paris on her own, having escaped the watchful eye of her uncle for the day. Other films in the retrospective include Malles first film, the thriller Ascenseur pour lchaufaud(1958), a sympathetic portrayal of a Nazi collaborator, Lacombe Lucien (1974), and one of Malles most important works, the autobiographical Au Revoir les Enfants(1987), winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film festival. Also screening are Les Amants(1958) with Jeanne Moreau and Le Feu Follet(1963). Malles years in India are represented by the LInde fantme series, parts 1-7 (1969).
