29 January - 31 December 2010. Europe's last surviving big-gun warship 'HMS Belfast', plays host to a highly popular interactive exhibition which documents the history of British shipbuilding. Once home to the world's largest ship building industry, between 1870 and the First World War around 80 per cent of the world's ships were produced in Britain. This family-orientated exhibition offers visitors the chance to operate genuine pneumatic machinery used in the construction of wartime ships, as well providing insights into the evolution of ship-building from 17th century wooden vessels to the hi-tech ships of today.
