Until 10 July 2005

A square in Lima (Peru) in 1607 was the first theatrical setting for the fictional hero Don Quixote. That is according to Santiago Garca, Director of Colombian theatre company La Candelaria, which is taking part in the Latin American Don Quixote Theatre Festival. Four centuries hence, Madrid is hosting several trasatlantic productions by El Mirn Cubano company and the Teatro Ncleo (an Argentinian group based in Italy), among others. For a long time weve been planning this show, with Don Quixote riding through Latin America. These productions come from a long tradition, theyre certainly no flash in the pan, says festival artistic director Elena Schaposnik, member of CELCIT-Espaa, long-time producers of Latin American theatre. After its open air launch, the festival will be held in the Casa de Amrica, the Centro Cultural de la Villa and the Crculo de Bellas Artes.

Admission, timetable and venues: various across Madrid, see global website.
