17 March-6 Apr 2006. Teatro Real de Madrid presents Giacomo Puccinis well-loved classic La Bohme. Set in the Latin Quarter of early 19th century Paris, the story revolves around the garret life of two penniless friends, the poet, Rodolfo and Marcello, a painter. Life is hard and the winter is cold, but romance in the form of Mimi, the seamstress, and Musette, Marcellos former lover, puts a new light on things, as does the odd glass of wine at the local tavern. However in the end unrelenting poverty and illness take Mimi to an early grave, and her friends are left grieving. The libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica is based on Henri Murgers novel Scnes de la Vie de Bohme. In this production at the Teatro Real, the role of Mimi is shared by Norah Amsellem, Inva Mula and ngeles Blancas. Rodolfo is played by Roberto Aronica and Aquiles Machado. The Madrid Symphony Orchestra and chorus are directed by Jess Lpez Cobos and David Gimnez. Admission 136-6 Performances at 20.00 except 19 March at 18.00.
