Ismael Smith: the beauty and the monsters

23 June-17 Sept. This exhibition re-evaluates the career of eccentric artist Ismael Marí Smith who was born in Barcelona in 1886 but died in a psychiatric institution in New York in 1972.

Although celebrated for his expressionistic art in Catalonia before his departure in 1919, once in the US he faded into oblivion.

The exhibition features a comprehensive selection of the artist's work, in particular his grotesque sculptures and engravings focusing on the sexual ambiguity of male or female figures.
