25 Feb-26 March 2006. 160 artists from 28 countries are taking part in the seventh edition of Viennas Akkordeon Festival. Sounds of the Mediterranean mix with Cajun, Zydeco, Celtic reels, Klezmer, Latin American, gypsy and jazz music in 26 concerts, 16 of which are double-bills. This years festival also has a literature salon at the Filmcasino, a Filmbrunch entitled The Accordion in Film, and a Night Adventure for Kids in the Vienna Jungle. The line-up of international stars includes Clifton Chenier jr., Chango Spasiuk and Kimmo Pohjonen, plus world-class pioneer accordionists Frank Marocco and Ral Barboza. Other highlights are the French-Austrian duo Otto Lechner and Arnaud Methivier and multi-ethnic group Dobrek Bistro. Venues include Planet Music, Aera, Theater Azkent, Orpheum, Metropol and Porgy and Bess. Admission 18-14. See website for performances and programme times.
