9-12 Nov 2006. The first Dutch Flamenco biennial offers 11 dance and music performances as well as documentary films, workshops, master-classes, exhibitions and post-event parties at the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, the Bimhuis and World Culture Centre RASA. The programme opens with dancer Beln Maya, daughter of flamenco legends Mario Maya and Carmen Mora, accompanied by guitarist Jos Luis Rodriguez plus a vocal and palmas ensemble at the Muziekgebouw (9 Nov). The festival also hosts flamenco-Sufi fusion band Duquende & Faiz Ali Faiz (10 Nov) and Son de la Frontera, featuring dancer Pepe Torres with Raul Rodrguez playing the tres (Cuban guitar) (10 and 11 Nov). Other highlights include Edad de Oro, contemporary flamenco art with Israel Galvn (9 and 12 Nov) and the Caizares Flamenco Trio with virtuoso guitarist Juan Manuel Caizares (11 and 12 Nov).
