5-9 Oct 2005. An international festival where documentary as both a media and art form takes centre stage. With backing from specialist global industries, the event focuses on the documentary form as a register of social and cultural settings. That is, according to individuals involved at given points in time. The festival has changed tack year in, year out, refreshing its contents and contributors. In this fifth installment, major prizes are up for grabs in the following categories: documentary, new author, experimental, human rights, Latin American, and an audience award which is voted by those attending the event. Film makers include Eduardo Coutinho, whose seminal piece Cabra marcado para Morrer (1984) marks an important part of Brazils history. The Recovery section of the festival presents film makers who have not yet been acknowledged outside their own country.
