27 June - 27 Sept 2009. Over the summer ARKEN presents a comprehensive and broadly representative exhibition of contemporary Chinese painting. There is a mixture of styles on show, from photorealism to woodcuts, by 11 of China's well established and up-and-coming artists. The paintings deal with both Chinese and international issues and, interestingly, it is possible to identify the influence of western art movements such as Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art, as well as the more traditional socialist themed works. However, what unites each artist is that they all paint in a figurative style and employ strong colours.
Tues-Sun 10.00-17.00. Wed 10.00-21.00. Monday closed.
